C/S Construction Specialties Unveils New Explovent Website, Educates On Hazards Of Explosions In The Workplace

C/S Construction Specialties, a global leader of architectural specialty products, today announced the launch of www.explovent.com, a website intended to educate users about the real dangers of material explosions in the workplace. Complete with the latest in industry news, videos and pictures, Explovent.com provides the information that Facility Operators, Health & Safety Officers and Owners need in order to make informed decisions about explosion mitigation and protection in their facilities.

Mississauga, Ontario (PRWEB) April 17, 2009 -- Last year alone, over 200 dust explosions were reported in U.S. manufacturing facilities and industrial processing plants. After the Imperial Sugar explosion in February 2008, which killed 14 and injured as many as 40, OSHA reissued its NEP (National Emphasis Program), classifying tens of thousands of facilities as potentially at risk to manufacturing related explosions.

Since that time, OSHA has conducted inspections at many of these facilities, of which 80% were, in fact, identified as a combustible dust hazard, according to a recent article published by the Combustible Dust Policy Institute. In addition to OSHA's moves to protect workers, the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and CSB (Chemical Safety Board) have pushed for more stringent combustible dust standards in U.S. manufacturing facilities.

Despite these initiatives, explosion hazards remain a real threat for workers who operate in chemical, pharmaceutical and food processing plants, as well as milling facilities, paper processing plants, recycling, sewage treatment centers and fossil fuel plants. Often it is the case that the individuals who work in these environments do so unaware of the dangers. As seen in the Imperial Sugar case, where the company was fined nearly $9 million after its deadly explosion, responsibility lies with facility owners and operators to protect against the devastating effects explosions have on the structural integrity of a building and the lives of employees within its confines.

As a market leader in specialty explosion relief panels, C/S Construction Specialties is launching Explovent.com to better address facility owners' and operators' needs for code compliant specialty venting systems.

"It is not enough to simply manufacture code-compliant products. The real challenge is in working with facilities to better understand the risks at hand, and then take the appropriate steps to protect and mitigate against the worst-case scenario: an explosion." says Rick Morris, Vice President and General Manager at C/S Construction Specialties. "There are thousands of facilities at risk to explosions, many of which operate with little awareness to the hazards or know where to turn for solutions. Explovent® is a critical part of the solution and we've launched Explovent.com to drive that message. Yes, we sell the necessary products, but we also guide facilities through the process of designing and installing the right system."

About Explovent

If you're involved with a facility where potentially explosive atmospheres, materials, or processes exist, you know that it's critical for your pressure venting system to function according to its design parameters.
