Inhalable Dust Air Sampling Kit

February 28, 2001

Inhalable Dust Air Sampling Kit Inhalable dust, the fraction of particulate matter that is inhaled through the nose and mouth, is a serious workplace hazard. Effective air sampling for inhalable size particles is essential to a safe working environment. The SKC Inhalable Dust Air Sampling Kit contains all of the equipment needed for easy inhalable dust sampling.

The IOM Inhalable Dust Sampler, included in the kit, is a conductive plastic sampling head that houses a reusable 25 mm filter cassette with specified filter for the collection of total airborne (inhalable) particles. When attached to a personal sampling pump operating at 2 L/min and clipped near a worker's breathing zone, the IOM closely simulates dust collection of the nose and mouth, effectively trapping particles up to 100 m in aerodynamic diameter. Because both the cassette and the filter are pre- and post-weighed as a single unit, all particles collected (even larger ones) are weighed and a total measurement is provided. Developed at the Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) in Scotland, the IOM meets the ACGIH criteria for inhalable particulate mass and other standards.
