Workers at North Star BlueScope Steel, provider of hot rolled bands of steel, took part in a multi-day field test of Defog It antifog to study fogging as a factor in workers' failure to wear safety eyewear, fogged eyewear as a workplace hazard, and Defog It's ability to solve the fogging problem.

The field test also confirmed that fogged safety eyewear continues to be a significant safety issue in steel and metal processing industry. Two thirds of the North Star BlueScope Steel respondents said fogging is a frequent problem; half stated that fogging sometimes causes them to remove their safety eyewear; and all recognized fogging as a safety issue.

This North Star BlueScope data echoes an independent study in which focus groups named fogging the Number One vision-related reason for not wearing protective eyewear in the workplace. Anti-fog is the solution suggested by more focus groups than incentives, warning signs, eyewear cleaning stations, or as a condition of employment.
