October 30, 2008
Rolling Meadows, IL - MYR Group Inc. (``MYR''), a holding company of specialty contractors serving the electrical infrastructure market in the United States, announced that its subsidiary Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc. and the Chattanooga, Tennessee district of its subsidiary The L.E. Myers Co. achieved STAR status in the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) for the Mobile Workforce Demonstration for Construction.
Regional OSHA officials will today participate in the presentation of the VPP STAR status recognition award to Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc. at its Henderson, Colorado location.
OSHA has recognized the management and employees of two of MYR's subsidiary companies for achievement of STAR status in OSHA's VPP for the Mobile Workforce Demonstration for Construction. Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc.'s Transmission and Distribution Division and its Commercial and Industrial Division received VPP Status in August 2008 for work performed in Colorado and will receive its recognition award today. The L.E. Myers Co., which received VPP Status in September 2008 for work it performed for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in multiple states, will soon receive its recognition award.
``MYR Group is a true leader in employee safety and health, especially in the construction industry,'' said Greg Baxter, OSHA Regional VPP Administrator in Denver. ``We are very fortunate to have high quality employers such as MYR in our region. Sturgeon Electric is the first electrical contractor in Region VIII to receive VPP recognition. This is a reflection of hard work, commitment and a sincere focus on workplace safety and health excellence.''
Management at MYR sets safety as a core value and feels that its safety programs are among the best in the industry. In August 2004, MYR, with other electrical transmission and distribution construction contractors and trade associations, formed a national OSHA Strategic Partnership (OSP). The training courses and best practices implemented through the OSP have contributed to improved safety and health throughout the company.
