Allegheny Energy Generating Facilities Honored For Safety
Greensburg, PA - Allegheny Energy, Inc. announced recently that three of its generating facilities in Pennsylvania have been recertified as Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Worksites by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The facilities honored include Allegheny Energy (AE) Units 1 & 2, located in Springdale, Pa.; AE Units 8 & 9, located in Gans, Pa.; and AE Units 12 & 13, located in Chambersburg, Pa. All three facilities are natural gas-fired combustion turbine units used primarily during times of peak electrical demand.
The Star Program recognizes worksites that are industry leaders in occupational safety and health, and which successfully protect workers by implementing far-reaching and effective health and safety programs. Participants are reevaluated every 30 to 60 months to make certain progress persists. The employees at these facilities initially earned their certification in October 2004.
Allegheny has participated in the Voluntary Protection Program since 2000 and has a total of seven VPP Star-Certified sites.
