Details

The TRI Indoor Mold Test Kit has been designed to test mold and bacteria being produced or circulating through the central air conditioning unit of your home or office. Two types of analytical methods are available for this test. Method I simply involves counting the number of colonies that are growing on the plate seven days after sampling and then comparing those values with the contamination scale provided in this kit. Method 2 involves sending the plate(s) to TRI/Environmental, Inc. for further analysis. TRI will perform a more detailed analysis that will assist your allergist with the types of organisms present in your environment. This information is useful in the development of individual allergy treatment. An additional $60.00 per plate is required for this analysis and reporting.

1. Open the plate and tape the plate bottom containing the growth media (gel substance) to the AC vent such that the air leaving the vent will blow directly onto the media surface.
2. Repeat Step 2 for the other AC vents selected in different rooms within the home or office.
3. Turn the air conditioning unit on manual fan-on and allow the fan to run continuously for 10 minutes.
4. After 10 minutes, remove each plate, replace the lid and write on the plate where the sample was collected (ex. Bedroom).
5. Tape the lid completely around the edge (duct or electrical tape) to prevent from opening. Once the sample has been collected do not open the plate.
6. To obtain a detailed report to assist your allergist's treatment, securely pack and immediately ship the plate(s) in a cardboard box to TRI/Environmental, Inc., 9063 Bee Caves Road, Austin, TX 78733-6201. The cost for laboratory services is $60.00 per plate. Results will be sent within 10 working days.
7. For Self Test Analysis, place the plate(s) out of reach of children. After 7 days, count the number of growths (colonies) that appear and consult the contamination scale provided below. Please place in a plastic garbage bag, tie shut, and dispose with common household trash.
