GHS Formatted Safety Data Sheets Now Being Flagged In MSDSonline Database
HazCom 2012, OSHA's recent revision of the Hazard Communication Standard, brings about new compliance challenges for managing chemicals and MSDSs. One way MSDSonline is helping customers handle the accelerated rate of MSDS turnover expected in coming months, is by flagging new GHS formatted safety data sheets in its database.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) - GHS adoption in the United States is in full-swing thanks to OSHA’s recent revision of the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS). The revised standard, which OSHA calls HazCom 2012, went into effect on May 25, 2012.
In response to the revised standard, MSDSonline has enhanced its sustainable cloud-based safety data sheet management solutions to make the transition to GHS easier for its customers. The most recent enhancement, announced today, is the flagging of GHS formatted safety data sheets within the system.
“GHS flagging is probably the number one database enhancement request we’ve received in relation to OSHA’s adoption of GHS,” said Cassandra Minutillo, director of product management at MSDSonline. “We wanted to make sure it was in place as GHS adoption took root in the United States and eventually Canada.”
MSDSonline users will now be able to quickly see if a new safety data sheet is in the GHS format thanks to GHS icons added to key elements within the system. Users will be able to search both the MSDSonline database as well as their unique online MSDS libraries (eBinders) for GHS formatted documents or they can filter their searches by GHS criteria.
GHS flagging is available on all MSDSonline MSDS management accounts.
“The ‘MSDS churn’ has officially begun,” said MSDSonline VP of Product Development and Strategy Mike Flynn, referring to swapping out of old safety data sheets for newer ones in the GHS format. “It will be an ongoing process for the next few years, but we expect the bulk of the transition to happen early, with another big push close to the compliance deadline of June 1, 2016.”
Flynn said, “Keeping your MSDS library up-to-date during this time period could be cumbersome for those without an electronic system.”
