Room acoustics in critical listening environments require a delicate balance of absorption, reflection, and diffusion, depending on the use of the space
Room acoustics in critical listening environments require a delicate balance of absorption, reflection, and diffusion, depending on the use of the space. Good speech intelligibility is provided by introducing absorptive materials to lower reverberation times (echo or decay time) so that reflected sounds do not interfere with speech arriving at key listening positions at different times. Reflective materials are desirable in music performance spaces. Diffusion materials can eliminate specular reflections to disperse sound over a broad listening area.

Proper application of these very basic principles is necessary to create the right acoustic environment. Today, architects are further challenged to design multipurpose environments for flexible use.

BRD stands ready to assist you in meeting these challenges using analysis and modeling techniques. We furnish only the highest quality materials and state of the art technical support.
