HM Insurance Group Provides Non-Profit Organizations With Workplace Safety Grants

More than $120,000 Donated Through HM Workers' Compensation Safety Grants Since 2012

Pittsburgh, PA /PRNewswire/ -- HM Insurance Group provided 15 non-profit organizations across Pennsylvania with grants for equipment and workplace enhancements that can help to improve safety. The primary areas of focus for the grants are preventing slips, trips and falls; limiting the risk in lifting, positioning and transferring patients in a health care environment; and preventing serious injuries associated with unsafe conditions. Now in its third year, the HM Workers' Compensation Safety Grant program has donated more than $120,000 to improving safety in the beneficiaries' workplaces.

"Helping non-profit organizations to improve workplace safety situations enables them to improve their outcomes and potentially reduce claims, which is our goal as we provide service, savings and success to our clients."

Among the HM Workers' Compensation safety grant recipients in Western Pennsylvania are: ARC Human Services, Inc.; Pauline Auberle Foundation; Community Living and Support Services; Lifespan, Inc.; Milestone Centers, Inc.; Perseus House, Inc.; and Sarah A. Reed Children's Center.

Beneficiaries in Central Pennsylvania are: Arbutus Park Retirement Community; Bell Socialization Services, Inc.; Dickinson Center, Inc.; and United Cerebral Palsy of Central PA.

Those in Eastern Pennsylvania receiving a safety grant are: Faith Friendship Ministries, Inc.; Meadowood; A Second Chance, Inc.; and VNA/Hospice of Monroe County.

Some of the improvements being addressed by the grants include the purchase of traction aides for shoes and boots, lifting and sliding devices for use with residential care patients, food transportation carts for transporting bulk meals, a ladder climb and roof hatch safety system and building security devices. Grant amounts range from $1,200 to $5,000 based on the specific improvement.

HM's safety grant program was introduced in 2012 as a corporate giving initiative of the company. Through the program, non-profit organizations with a documented safety risk that can be mitigated through equipment upgrades or additions can be awarded up to $5,000 for implementation if all criteria are met.
