The Safety Blade, World Patent Marketing's Latest Innovation, Can Reduce Companies' OSHA Safety Violations

Safety Blade

The New York Inventor Exchange approves Safety Blade for Licensing and Trading Intellectual Property Rights.

New York, New York (PRWEB) - World Patent Marketing, the world's fastest growing patent, idea protection and inventor services company, warns the public against work related injuries. The company has announced the development of the Safety Blade, a blade with a flat cover that is expected to eliminate the dangers of naked razor blades in the workplace..

Safety Blade is a simple, inexpensive foldable plastic blade and cover that locks the blade inside when not in use. The blade may be retracted and extended from the housing for use or replacement. It has locking pins which securely hold the blade in place when it is in use. It allows the blade to be changed safely and easily without the user having to use any tools. The plastic blade cover is disposable, but it may also be reused. The product is made from durable, high-grade plastic. It is childproof. Kids cannot easily expose or release the blade because opening the holder requires firm pressure that only adults can exert.

A razor blade is one of the most dangerous items anybody can find at home and at the workplace. When improperly disposed or handled incorrectly, it can be responsible for a whole host of health and safety issues. Work-related injuries involving razor blades are seldom fatal, but a break in the skin can lead to severe infections and amputations especially for people with diabetes and other health issues. Also, people can accidentally get slashed in the most delicate places, and the pain can be more than excruciating. Yet, razor blades are indispensable for a wide variety of applications. It is generally used for cutting and scraping. It is hazardous, but it is something that people cannot do without in many instances.

According to the Occupation Health and Safety Organization and the US Department of Labor:

"Contaminated Sharps" means any contaminated object that can penetrate the skin including, but not limited to, needles, scalpels, broken glass, broken capillary tubes, and exposed ends of dental wires [29 CFR 1910.1030(b)].

Potential Hazard

Exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM), from contaminated sharps for example:

  • Used Disposable Razors that could be contaminated with blood.
  • I.V. Connector Systems that use needles to connect I.V. setups.

Possible Solutions

Follow the requirements of the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 1910.1030 and implement engineering and work practice controls to help prevent needlesticks or other sharps exposures.

Used Disposable Razors should be considered contaminated waste and disposed of properly in appropriate sharps containers.

I.V. connector systems: Use needleless connector systems with I.V. setups to minimize occupational exposure to needles and bloodborne pathogens. Avoid using needles where safe and effective alternatives are available.

“There is a crying need for a device that will protect those who handle blades and help keep these sharp objects from injuring anybody, especially children,” Gregory A., the product developer says.

Plastic blade covers offer protection from accidental cuts. The problem is most existing blade covers are poorly designed.

“People should steer clear of these blade covers because they do more harm than good,” warns Gregory A, “Some blade holders are not safe to use because they don’t lock the blades securely in place and they could get dislodged.”

The product developer muses, “It’s time to make health and safety issues, work-related injuries, and other hazards caused by naked blades a thing of the past. I’ve always hated seeing people suffer needlessly, that’s why I created the safest blade holder there is.”

Exclusive and Non-Exclusive Licensing Rights are available to manufacturers in the United States only at this time.
