Vigilant Leadership Advantage Program Provides Leadership Development Through Group Learning

PORTLAND, ORE.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

In an effort to help companies develop and advance their leaders, Vigilant, an organization that advises employers in the Pacific NW and California on employment issues, has developed a Leadership Advantage Program (VLA) for supervisors and safety leaders. Developed with the understanding that leaders learn by doing, VLA offers practical knowledge and real-world application through facilitated group learning, on-the-job practicum, and self-study.

Program participants have the opportunity to capitalize on one another’s resources and skills, sharing information, evaluating ideas, and monitoring each other’s work, therefore both accelerating and enhancing their learning opportunities. “I enjoyed speaking with people from other companies about their experiences and sharing ideas – not only do you learn from the tasks and your experience, you also learn from the other participants as well,” states Michael Davis of Swanson Bark & Wood Products who completed the VLA for Safety program last year.

The VLA model has been successfully utilized by prominent Fortune 500 companies such as Weyerhaeuser, as well as Reser’s Fine Foods, and Swanson Bark & Wood Products. Vigilant currently offers two Leadership Advantage Program options for employers:

VLA: Supervisors

Leaders, managers, and supervisors from several industries joined together to create the content for this unique program, with a curriculum that focuses on corporate alignment, making tough decisions, identifying future leaders, driving innovative solutions, and much more.

VLA: Safety

Vigilant’s safety leadership program addresses the leadership gap among those who oversee the safety of your workforce. This program was developed for employers and managers looking to create leaders within work environments where safety is key, regardless of the participant’s title or formal role.

“Developing top talent is essential for a company to achieve sustainable, long-term success,” said Derek Glos, Vigilant president-elect. “To provide the next generation of leaders with the knowledge, skills, and wisdom they’ll need, we developed the VLA Supervisor and Safety programs with an aim toward providing the utmost value and flexibility for participants.” Future leaders participate in peer groups and development sessions over the phone and online. Furthermore, the group learning options can be customized to fit nearly any job, at any level, in any industry. Vigilant is dedicated to making the program available to employers of all shapes and sizes, across various industries and without geographic constraints.
