The physical decontamination of an area is called "Biocleaning." It is a labor intensive process of physically and chemically removing all microbial surface contamination. Specialized HEPA equipment and other products including two types of lint free alcohol wipes developed by BioGard are used in this process. (BioGard Technologies) Surface contamination, especially carpeting and all flat surfaces, is a major point source for indoor air quality problems. If this step were skipped in the process of decontaminating the building, the whole system would be pointless. Microbes eat dirt and other material on a building surfaces. By removing the foreign matter, the media for the microbes to grow is eliminated.
