Black & Veatch Team Wins Series Of Health & Safety Awards From The Royal Society For The Prevention Of Accidents
Redhill, UK - Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, was recently lauded by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for its exceptional efforts to maintain the highest standards in occupational health and safety.
Black & Veatch's Scottish project team working for Scottish Water Solutions; the company's Southern team working on Southern Water's Margate & Broadstairs Wastewater Treatment Scheme; and its Wales team working for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water have been selected to receive the prestigious RoSPA.
In addition, the company's Northern team has also won RoSPA's coveted Gold Medal. Gold Awards have also been presented to its Northumbrian Water Alliance team, the Watermark team working for Yorkshire Water, and its South West K41 project team. Silver Awards have also been presented to the company's Thames Valley, Eastern and Southern teams.
The Scottish team is being awarded the RoSPA Gold Medal – one of the highest honors in occupational health and safety in the UK industry – for the second year in a row.
It takes five consecutive Gold awards from RoSPA to qualify for a Gold Medal. This means that the Scottish team has demonstrated no less than seven years of exceptional occupational health and safety.
"Black & Veatch has continually provided a high standard in health and safety when working for Scottish Water Solutions," said Bob Cummins, Head of Health & Safety at Scottish Water Solutions. "Its contribution to Scottish Water Solutions' goal to continually improve safety standards through partnership has been invaluable.
"Black & Veatch not only prides itself on providing safe standards for its workers, it is also heavily involved with our best practice and knowledge sharing forums, which help a wider audience learn from their experience and expertise."
Steve Miller, Black & Veatch Project Centre Director for Scotland, added: "We consider safety paramount in our operations, and each professional knows he has the backing of the company to ‘do the job right.' We expect every member of our team to demonstrate commitment to providing safe, reliable and sustainable solutions to our clients most complex challenges."
The Scottish team will collect its Gold Medal at a ceremony to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, on 25 September 2008.
In a similar vein, the Black & Veatch team working on the Margate & Broadstairs Wastewater Treatment Scheme has won the RoSPA Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety.
RoSPA Awards Manager, David Rawlins, said, "The Black & Veatch/Costain Joint Venture team working on Margate & Broadstairs, and the client, Southern Water Services Ltd., has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of all stakeholders. We hope other businesses and organisations will follow their lead and strive for continuous improvement in health and safety management."
The Southern team collected its Gold Award in Birmingham on May 14, 2008.
Black & Veatch professionals working for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water have won the RoSPA Silver Award for Occupational Health & Safety.
Black & Veatch Framework Manager, Toby Harding, said, "This is a tremendous achievement. Awards like this can only be won when every individual in a team contributes – they should all be extremely proud of themselves."
