CHS Receives Prestigious OSHA Award For Environmental, Health & Safety Services At Kennedy Space Center

Vienna, VA - Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. (CHS), a leading national workforce health management company, was honored with the Voluntary Protection Plan (VPP) "STAR" Award from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for its environmental, health and safety services at Kennedy Space Center (KSC). CHS was also recognized as a member of the award-winning teams at three additional client sites that won VPP "STAR" Awards, including a major defense contractor in Arizona.

The VPP "STAR" is the highest form of recognition into VPP and is OSHA's official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health programs. In the VPP, management, labor, and OSHA establish cooperative relationships at workplaces that have implemented a comprehensive safety and health management system.

"This is the ‘brass ring' reward for an enormous effort put forth by promoting the health and safety of KSC employees ‘over and above' what is required and recommended by current industry standards," said Gary Palmer, CHS executive vice president. "The award reinforces CHS' leadership in its Environmental, Health & Safety Services, including its important industrial hygiene capabilities."

The Region IV OSHA audit at Kennedy Space Center involved a rigorous week-long inspection process, resulting in a formal recommendation of VPP "STAR" status that was subsequently approved by OSHA's national headquarters in Washington, DC.

"Our VPP Working Group has been diligently working over the last several years to cover all of the Safety and Health processes, work and improvements that needed to be done to qualify for the VPP "STAR" award," said Palmer.

CHS was previously awarded this prestigious recognition from OSHA in 2004 for its occupational safety program at NASA's Johnson Space Center.
