Company Partners With OSHA, USF To Protect Workers

United Insulated Structures, Corp. has partnered with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and University of South Florida On-Site Consultation Program. The partnership agreement was signed on Oct. 30, 2023, and will last until completion of construction or three years, whichever comes first.

The agreement will increase safety at the Karis Cold – Martin County Construction Project in Stuart by encouraging contractors to implement safety and health programs, and to provide safety and health training to workers. UIS will work to strengthen safety culture with subcontractors by mentoring them in safety and health management systems.

"Safety on our construction sites is more than a goal or a priority, it's a commitment to engage and protect every individual who works on our projects," said Shaun Rainey, vice president of Safety Power Construction and vice president of Safety for UIS. "Through our OSHA partnership and the engagement of our subcontractor partners, we build a safety culture that ensures every worker goes home injury-free, every day."

Fall hazards and prevention will be one of the focus areas for this partnership. In fiscal year 2023, OSHA issued more than 7,000 violations of fall protection standards. This makes fall protection the most violated OSHA standard for the thirteenth consecutive year.

"This partnership demonstrates UIS's commitment to worker safety and health," said Condell Eastmond, OSHA Fort Lauderdale area director. "They understand that for safety and health to be a core value at the jobsite, it must be an enterprise-wide priority."

As a partner in this agreement, OSHA will, among other things:

• Participate in quarterly meetings with participants.
• Serve as a resource and liaison and assist with safety and health training.
• Provide technical assistance when needed.
• Audit monthly reports and make recommendations to reach safety goals.

As a partner, The University of South Florida On-Site Consultation Program will:

• Give priority consideration to requests for services to small contractors that are working on this construction site.
• Appoint a representative to the project safety committee.
• Support, perform, and monitor activities related to safety and health.
