Constellation Energy's Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Receives Exceptional Achievement Recognition In Safety And Health
Baltimore, MD - Constellation Energy recently announced that its Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, located in Southern Maryland, has been recognized by Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH), specifically, receiving its Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) Star level. Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant is the ninth Maryland employer to be named a VPP Star site.
"This award signifies a remarkable achievement for Calvert Cliffs' health and safety programs," said Jim Spina, vice president of Constellation Energy's Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. "Health and safety are of the utmost importance to our overall performance, and we are incredibly proud of all our employees who made this possible by exemplifying these values every day."
Maryland VPP is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Cooperative Program. Calvert Cliffs was recognized by both OSHA and the State of Maryland for exemplifying the VPP principles of building commendable safety and health programs through cooperation, management's commitment and employee/contractor involvement. Fewer than 2,000 worksites, of the nearly 8 million in the United States, currently share this honor. Sites meeting the VPP's demanding requirements typically experience injury and illness rates at least 50 percent below their industry average.
"VPP sites are positive corporate citizens and excellent neighbors," said J. Ronald DeJuliis, commissioner of labor and industry, State of Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation "They become models of what employers and employees can achieve by working cooperatively with one another and with MOSH to achieve a level of worker protection that goes beyond compliance with government regulations. VPP participants mentor other businesses and promote safety and health within their communities."
