Detector Electronics Corporationnics Eagle 2000 Addressable gas detection system proved to be exactly what Saudi Aramco needed when its Rabigh refinery, one of the oldest in the country, required a complete overhaul of its detection and alarm system.

As a result, Aramco went for its first complete turn-key system package from Detector Electronics, having used the company's flame and gas detection devices for many years. The Eagle 2000 system gave them the state-of-the-art addressability feature as well as the ability to connect into their DCS system via its Modbus output.

Plant combustible gas and H2S sensors were connected via the Eagle 2-wire loop to an operator interface console in the main control room, which also actuated the plant alarm horns and safety strobe lights.

Also included in the system was the PointWatch infrared based combustible gas detector. This detector was selected because it only needs minimum maintenance and infrequent calibration, features considered very important in harsh environments such as Saudi Arabia.

The overall Det-Tronics package met the requirements of the company so closely that the Aramco tender sole-sourced Detector Electronics by name and product description for the project.
