ECC Receives Top Occupational Safety And Health Administration Designation

Burlingame, CA /PRNewswire/ -- ECC's Guam program was recently honored with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) Star-level designation. ECC received the federal recognition, which is part of OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), for exceptional safety and health performance on its Guam Operations Designated Geographic Area.

The Star-level honor is given to projects with enhanced safety and health management systems that have injury and illness rates at or below national averages. At the time of OSHA's site assessment visit - and despite a variety of challenging cleanup and construction activities - ECC's three-year recordable incident rate was 38% lower than the national average for the remediation services industry, with no days away or restricted cases.

In a letter to ECC informing the firm of its Star-level designation, OSHA writes, "Your qualification for OSHA's premiere recognition program is a testament to the efforts you and your employees have made to develop and implement a VPP-quality safety and health management system."

Michael Stout, ECC's Project Manager for its Guam operations, comments, "Being recognized by OSHA as a VPP Star site could only be achieved through a team effort that requires everybody to contribute. Employee safety is a core value at ECC. Our goal is to not only respect that core value, but to also instill the value of safety in our subcontractors. Our experienced staff has done a great job of mentoring our subcontractors so that they too, along with ECC employees, are actively involved in reducing hazards and preventing accidents everyday. It's a privilege to work with such a great team that is committed to looking out for one another."

OSHA created the VPP in 1982 to recognize and partner with companies committed to effective employee protection beyond usual OSHA standards, and those that demonstrate leadership excellence in occupational safety and health. VPP participants develop and implement systems to effectively identify, evaluate, prevent, and control occupational hazards to avoid employee injuries and illnesses.

Since 2000, ECC has been providing environmental remediation, construction, and disaster response services in Guam for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Air Force Civil Engineering Support Agency, and US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Currently, ECC is repairing the water distribution system at Andersen Air Force Base, which involves replacing approximately 5 miles of water main with PVC pipe, as well as valves and other water main appurtenances base-wide.

Additionally, ECC is involved in soils remediation at multiple electrical utility sites under Commander, US Naval Forces Marianas, Guam. The project scope includes removal of approximately 31,000 tons of PCB-, TPH-, and pesticide-contaminated soil and concrete. ECC is treating the impacted materials through indirect thermal desorption, and will restore the sites to natural conditions.

ECC is headquartered in California and has offices throughout the US and worldwide, including Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, and Hawaii. ECC provides a complete range of services to support its clients' missions, including environmental remediation, design/build construction, operations and maintenance, and munitions response.
