Research
When problems do not lend themselves to the use of existing methodologies, HSB PLC can develop specific and unique analytical tools for research purposes. For example, HSB PLC has developed a computer-based fire model to evaluate the need for fire-resistant coatings for structural steel.

HSB PLC also has access to extensive fire related literature which is used as a basis for evaluating unique fire hazards and protection.

Our staff are skilled not only in the design and performance of research but, equally important, in the presentation of findings in an understandable form. This often enables reviewers to accept analytically justified alternatives to "cookbook" fire protection requirements.

HSB PLC has specialized in bringing research from the laboratory to the practitioner. Current research is used to develop understandable, useful engineering guides and procedures.

Testing Program Development
In some cases existing fire test data may need to be adapted to the specific problem at hand. HSB PLC personnel are active in the development and application of fire test standards. This activity on the ASTM E 5 committee ensures that HSB PLC personnel are well prepared to interpret existing test data and prevent misapplication.

When ad hoc fire tests are necessary, HSB PLC designs the test program to yield the maximum information for the client's use. Our engineers and consultants thoroughly understand the limitations and advantages of individual fire test standards. This enables them to select the most appropriate test standard. HSB PLC has been called on to develop, manage, and conduct fire tests to determine the fire performance of materials
