Scientific Technologies, Inc. introduces the MCJ4700 Safety Light Curtain. The MCJ4700 is the first ever multiple segment safety light curtain available that requires no cabling between segments - each segment of the MCJ4700 is connected via innovative solid electromechanical joints.

The MCJ4700 can be configured for the precise protection that is needed, and is the most custom configurable light curtain available today. Systems are available with a mixture of resolutions between segments, and at the corners the resolution is less than or equal to 30 mm. They are available in standard segmented lengths from 3 in. to 71 in., and include all of STI's safety light curtain features as standard. Response time as fast as 8 msec and resolution as small as 12 mm allow mounting closer to danger points on a machine.

Adequately safeguarding a compact machine is a challenge for many machine builders and users. Safety light curtains are often too large to be mounted on the machine. The MCJ4700 Series' ultra-compact transmitter and receiver (26 mm x 28 mm, 1.02 in. x 1.1 in.) allow it to be easily integrated into the design of small machines, and the electromechanical joints create a built-in appearance when installed.

Standard safety light curtains are limited to providing a single vertical or horizontal guard zone, which is inadequate for many applications. The jointed segment design allows for "U" shaped guard zones that would otherwise require the use of mirrors, or three conventional safety light curtains for adequate protection. This design also allows for "L" shaped guard zones that provide horizontal protection to prevent a machine operator from placing their body between the vertical segment and point of hazardous operation.
