Draeger Safety, Inc.g continuous detection of hydrocarbons in air and other atmospheres, the Polytron gas detection system uses the physical principle of infrared absorption by the molecules of the target gas. This system is a version of non-imaging optics that detects various hydrocarbons with a similar sensitivity. The optics are used also far more resistant to heavy vibrations and extreme environmental conditions.

A splashguard and built-in heating system provide a constant flow of ambient air through the cuvette and are designed to reduce delays by diffusion. A built-in port for handheld terminals allows access for maintenance or configuration in all types of installations. It is enclosed in a stainless steel 316 housing, and offers both a 4-20mA signal and interfaces for digital communication via a HART and RS485 output. The double-compensated optics of this unit are incorporated to eliminate most aging effects, however for an application specific validation or special configurations calibration is recommended.
