The continued growth and expansion of the geosynthetics industry has been mirrored within the many companies becoming involved in geosynthetic applications. In addition to increased use of geosynthetics in road stabilization, drainage and reinforcement applications, current methods for the disposal of municipal and hazardous waste include the construction of landfills and related impoundments using geosynthetic liner systems for containment and separation. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established minimum requirements for construction quality assurance (CQA) and construction quality control (CQC) of land disposal units. Well-planned CQA/CQC programs begin during the design phase and proceed through installation and operation of a landfill or surface impoundment. These services frequently involve third party independent laboratory testing serving to verify conformance with material specification values.
