While they afford needed protection from harmful muzzle blasts, traditional earmuffs also block out other important sounds, like range commands. A number of electronic earmuff products have sought to alleviate this difficulty. Now Howard Leight, a global leader in hearing safety, has introduced a new electronic earmuff called Targo Trap. This earmuff was specifically designed to meet the needs of shooters -- whether they are competitive shooters, law enforcement professionals or amateur sportsmen.

Targo Trap electronically amplifies low level ambient sounds, like range commands or normal conversation, while instantly "clipping" or reducing loud noises, such as gunfire, above 82 dB (decibels) down to acceptable levels. However, in developing the new NRR 25 dB line, designers went beyond the basics to make the shooting experience as comfortable and natural as possible while providing superior protection from damaging noise levels.

Targo Trap incorporates a number of other features, including low-profile, beveled earcups designed to minimize interference with gun stocks. Water-resistant, directionally placed microphones enable the user to pinpoint the location of incoming sounds while consistently understanding voice and other signals. Stereo earspeakers provide superior sound quality and amplification for a more natural sound. A single control for On/Off and volume facilitates use.

In addition, Targo Trap features a "quick-click" height adjustable headband that is cushioned to provide a secure, comfortable fit even during extended wear. The compact, folding design makes storage convenient. Standard AAA batteries provide extended life up to 350 hours, and an automatic 4-hour shutoff prevents accidental battery drain.

Howard Leight leads the industry in developing innovative sound management technologies that are used in some of the most challenging environments in the world. Howard Leight is a part of the Bacou-Dalloz Safety Group.
