Ionizing radiation sources:

  • X-ray tubes
  • X-ray lasers
  • Radionuclides
General flow of topics
General flow of topics ranges from the sources and characteristics of ionizing radiation through the radiation/tissue interaction mechanisms to the maximum permissible dose levels, control measures, safe operating procedures and ancillary hazards. Detailed topical outlines are available upon request.

The lecturer, Dr. Hughes, has extensive experience involving ionizing radiation ranging from theoretical aspects through hands-on work with reactors and a host of x-ray radiation sources. He served as the radiation physicist for several hospitals in California, performing both radiation safety surveys and quality assurance testing of nuclear and x-ray imaging systems. He has provided ionizing radiation safety training for audiences nation-wide for the past 15 years.
