OSHA Calls On Employers To Raise Workplace Safety Awareness During Safe + Sound Week From August 12-18, 2019

The OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District invites companies to join OSHA’s nationwide workplace safety event.

Dublin, CA (PRWEB) - The OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, the only OSHA authorized OTI Education Center headquartered in Northern California, is inviting employers and workers to participate in Safe + Sound Week, a nationwide safety event scheduled for the week of August 12-18, 2019. Safe + Sound Week is sponsored by OSHA in partnership with a dedicated team of organizers and hundreds of businesses and organizations to raise awareness of the value and effectiveness of safety and health programs that incorporate management leadership, worker participation and a systematic approach to finding and fixing workplace hazards.

“Implementing a successful safety and health program can help employers proactively identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness, improving sustainability and the bottom line,” says Cari Elofson, Assistant Director of the OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. “Organizations are encouraged to plan a Safe + Sound Week event to kick off a safety and health program or expand and energize their current safety plan.”

Organizations of any size or in any industry looking for an opportunity to show their commitment to workplace safety and health are encouraged to host a workplace safety event. Employers who have already established a safety and health program can deliver a presentation or workshop that reinforces the importance of workplace safety and health; conduct a meeting to solicit input from workers on safety concerns and ideas for hazard prevention; or conduct an award ceremony to recognize workers or teams for their contributions to workplace safety. Safe + Sound Week also provides a great opportunity to establish or fine tune procedures for collecting and reviewing information about known or potential workplace hazards, investigating their root causes and implementing or improving hazard controls.

OSHA has established a Safe + Sound section on their website that provides extensive resources, including how to establish a safety and health program, recommended safety and health practices, a list of OSHA training programs, how to conduct workplace safety walk-arounds and a brochure on common workplace hazards. Employers can also access ideas for how to participate in Safe + Sound Week as well as an archive of activities and events from past years.

The OSHA Training Institute Education Center is participating in Safe + Sound Week by offering OSHA 7205-Health Hazard Awareness on August 15, 2019, in Dublin, California, at a special discount rate of only $50. This 1-day awareness course for employers and employees introduces common health hazards encountered in the workplace, and emphasizes recognizing and identifying potential hazards, and avoiding, minimizing, controlling or eliminating them whenever possible.

OSHA urges employers and workers throughout the U.S. to demonstrate their commitment to raising hazard awareness and improving workplace safety and health by participating in Safe + Sound Week.
