The PICS is a body temperature control system engineered to conductively cool the body by circulating chilled water through a network of small plastic tubing which is sewn into a personal garment (TUBEsuit). The user wears the TUBEsuit close to the skin.

The chilled water necessary to make the TUBEsuit work is generated by a second system component called a "COOLER." The cold circulating water within the TUBEsuit conductively removes heat from the skin of the user, in turn cooling the blood that returns to the body's core. The user controls the speed of the Cooler's pump, thereby controlling the cooling rate, in accordance with physical production. The TUBEsuit component garments couple to one another, and to the Cooler, through a system of convenient self-sealing quick connectors. The Cooler can be situated outside of other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) so that depleted ice can be changed without doffing the PPE.
