Quest Software Enhanced For Human Vibration Applications: Permissible Exposure Time Calculator Added
QuestSuite® Professional meets growing information needs created by new European Union Directive
Oconomowoc, WI, April 21, 2004: Quest Technologies Inc, an employee-owned world leader in the development and manufacture of monitoring instrumentation and software for occupational and environmental health & safety (OEHS) applications, today announced that it has launched QuestSuite Professional Version 1.6, a comprehensive software application for the collection, analysis and reporting of exposures to workplace and environmental hazards including noise, vibration, heat stress, indoor air quality and toxic/combustible gases.
Quest Technologies has added the ability for users concerned with occupational vibration exposures from powered hand-tools to determine just how long a worker may use a particular tool before reaching prescribed safety limits. Such limits are defined in a new European Union Physical Agents Directive (2002/44/EC) applicable to all EU member countries. Other countries around the world also maintain regulatory standards to which this tool may be applied. In still other parts of the world, such as the United States, guidelines from groups like the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) may be applied. Occupational vibration is receiving growing attention around the world. Concerns over how to mitigate the problem once exposures are understood have some companies fearing expensive wholesale replacement of current equipment may be the only solution. To avoid this dilemma, systems are needed to determine how much work can be safely performed with the equipment in place today. This is where the Quest system responds.
"Unlike typical vibration monitoring systems that merely document exposures and report data, our system provides users with answers to real-life questions. Using the information from our QuestSuite Professional system, companies can maximize the productivity of their workers without exposing them or the company to excessive risks or expenses," said Dan Webster, CEO & President of Quest Technologies. "We are giving companies a way to manage safety cost effectively and avoid being forced to immediately change out their equipment at great expense in order to comply."
The Quest solution consists of a personal human vibration monitoring instrument as well, called the HAVPro, which quantifies both hand-arm and whole-body vibration emissions from hand-tools and transportation equipment. At present the exposure time calculator addresses hand-arm applications only, but in the next release of QuestSuite Professional the exposure time calculator will also serve the whole-body application.
Existing users of QuestSuite Professional are entitled to this enhancement free of charge by contacting Quest or their authorized International Quest distributor. The QuestSuite and HAVPro occupational vibration monitoring system will be on display at numerous trade shows around the world this year.
