Only 31 percent of surveyed adult employees in the United States indicated that their workplace is proactive about emergency preparedness, according to an online survey commissioned by Cintas Corporation (http://www.cintas.com)

Highland Park, IL (PRWEB) - In any workplaces, prevention of accidents and emergency through project planning, design, implementation and leadership is a primary objective. However, in the event that an accident occurs, plans and processes should be in place to ensure an effective response. In the workplace, a thorough investigations of all significant incidents should be conducted to understand the root cause, share lessons learned and prevent future incidents. An emergency drill exercises should be conducted few times each year to comply with the OSHA regulation requirements.

With upward trend in external and internal disaster, having an effective Emergency Preparedness Plan in place and training workers on this plan is important. External Disaster is a civil catastrophe, either manmade or caused by an act of God. An external disaster may overwhelm normal facilities. This condition can occur as a result of fires and explosions, storms, civil disorders, multiple injury accidents, military action, among other causes. Internal Disaster is an event such as a fire or explosion resulting in internal casualties or circumstances.

The first step in preparing an effective emergency preparedness plan is to prepare a Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA). This analysis assists the organization in determining where it is most vulnerable to emergencies. Completion of the HVA is the organization’s first step in the development of mitigation strategy. An internet search under “hazard vulnerability analysis” provides additional resources if needed.

OSHA places great value on having trained and capable emergency responders as part of the company’s emergency preparedness program. How proactive is your company about planning ahead for emergencies and about training employees on related procedures?

"Since many employed adults spend the majority of their waking hours in the workplace, organizations need to be prepared to handle injuries, health emergencies, or inclement weather with both proactive and reactive solutions,” said Jamie Samide, senior director of marketing for Cintas. "However, our survey highlights a gaping hole in organizational preparedness.” Proactive measures, such as training and emergency response plans, help ensure ongoing safety. However, surveyed employees reported significant deficiencies in these area. More information about Emergency Preparedness program is available BLR.com
