TECO explosion claims third victim

TAMPA, Fla., April 13 (UPI) _ A third person has died from injuries sustained last week when a generator exploded at a Tampa Electric Co. power plant.

TECO employee Kevin Smith of Plant City died last night at Tampa General Hospital. He had been in critical condition since Thursday's accident, when he suffered burns over 47 percent of his body, along with other injuries.

Two additional victims remain in fair condition at Tampa General.

After a two-day investigation, TECO determined that worker error _ not lax safety procedures or faulty equipment _ led to the explosion.

But the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has yet to conclude its investigation.
