The NATLSCO Back System
The NATLSCO Back System is a four-part approach to preventing and managing workers who experience an injury. This not only involves NATLSCO, but facility personnel who work together in implementing strategies for preventing injuries and assisting injured workers.
NATLSCO Back System Four Part Approach:
The Specialist: The NATLSCO representative who helps the facility plan, develop, train and facilitate the program. Their "back"ground is in ergonomics.
The Plan: The Specialist helps the facility formulate an action plan which targets specific problems, trouble areas and helps the facility create it's own task force.
The Kickoff: This phase includes presentation of the action plan to the task force and provides training to the task force in:
- Back anatomy and risks of injury
- Engineering, Administrative and Work practice controls
- Behavior modification
- Return to Work/post-injury management strategies
- Prioritizing the action plan
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY ... FOLLOW-THROUGH!
The Specialist doesn't just disappear once the training is done. The Specialist can attend post-training meetings and act as a technical resource, guiding the task force as needed. This continues until the task force is confidently on their own, however, the Specialist is always available.
