US Labor Department's OSHA Launches Alliance In Philadelphia With Consulate Of Mexico To Promote Worker Safety And Health

In its ongoing effort to protect all workers from workplace safety and health hazards, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently formed a regional alliance in Philadelphia with the Consulate of Mexico to provide safety and health training to Mexican nationals working in Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Through the alliance, OSHA and the consulate will provide workers with guidance and access to education and training resources about their rights and OSHA standards. Alliance members will promote safety and health by participating at each other's outreach events, including mobile consulate activities.

"By working with the Mexican Consulate, we will advance our effort to provide Spanish-speaking workers with vital information about their rights and how to stay safe on the job," said MaryAnn Garrahan, OSHA regional administrator in Philadelphia.

The signing ceremony was held at the Consulate of Mexico office in Philadelphia. The alliance was signed by MaryAnn Garrahan and Consul General of Mexico Carlos I. Giralt Cabrales.

Through its Alliance Program, OSHA works with businesses, trade associations, unions, consulates, professional organizations, faith and community-based organizations, and educational institutions to prevent workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses. The purpose of each alliance is to develop compliance assistance tools and resources and educate workers and employers about their rights and responsibilities.
