Veolia Competes In National Safework Awards

Employees and businesses from across Australia were honoured for their outstanding contributions to work health and safety at the 9th Annual Safe Work Australia Awards, held at Parliament House in Canberra on Tuesday, 28th April.

Safe Work Australia leads the development of national policy to improve work health and safety and workers’ compensation arrangements across Australia, so Veolia's nomination in these awards is huge achievement!

Veolia was a finalist in Category 1: Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System after recently having won the NSW region award for the same category. Although not successful at the national awards, the Always Safe program has demonstrated a no compromises approach to occupational health and safety, and has created a major cultural shift amongst the waste business in NSW.

In congratulating the winners and finalists on their achievements Minister for Employment Senator Abetz recognised the hard work, passion and positive impact they have made to work health and safety. “I am delighted to see individuals, small businesses and large organisations finding solutions to make their workplaces safer,” Senator Abetz said.

“Their commitment and passion has made a difference in the community and ensured safer workplaces leading to more people getting home safely to their families.

“The leadership and innovation of people and organisations like those celebrated at the Awards that not only helps to reduce the number of workplace deaths and injuries but also helps to create a positive workplace culture.

“Congratulations to this year’s winners and finalists - their outstanding efforts are helping Australia get a step closer to achieving our vision of healthy, safe and productive working lives.”

Thirty-seven finalists from across Australia were honoured at the awards ceremony.

The Safe Work Australia Awards showcase the best workplace safety solutions, innovations and systems across our nation and are a celebration of what can be achieved to reduce workplace incidents and deaths. finalists were winners of their respective category at their work health and safety regulator awards in 2013.
