Vicom Multimedia Inc. ("VMI" has launched version 3.0 of the Construction Safety Training System (CSTS), which is better suited to the virtual training centers needed to reach construction workers.

"We're hearing from clients and distributors that what is needed most is safety training that is portable and flexible enough to be delivered on desktop computers in training centers and also on laptops in job site trailers," says David Hamill, President & CEO of Vicom Multimedia, the creators of CSTS. "They need the flexibility to match the training center to their workers' needs and schedules to provide them with safety training when, where, and how it will be most effective."

CSTS version 3.0 has been totally rebuilt using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 and is now optimized to run faster than the previous version across the full spectrum of Microsoft platforms including Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000. Although many of the benefits of a fully Microsoft-driven product appear invisible to the end-user, the performance across a broad range of computers and training environments will be appreciated by everyone using CSTS Eand especially important to people who have been reluctant to use technology.

"CSTS is a great choice for people who, up to now, have been holding back from using technology for safety training. Technology can seem confusing or risky when they can't be sure that their software will work in all their hardware situations regardless of whether they are using desktop or laptop computers, running standalone stations or networking their computers all together. By working to the Microsoft standard we know we are reaching the most people with a fully integrated solution," says Hamill.

CSTS is a highly specialized risk management and safety training solution designed to help the four million construction workers in the U.S. work more safely, resulting in fewer job-site accidents and reduced worker's compensation costs. CSTS is a SAFE-T-Disc program that delivers the media-rich courseware on CD-ROM, direct to each worker; the student records are managed centrally in the User Management System over a network or the Internet. It is a solution that has been proven to help reduce lost time claims and to be more effective than stand-up training for training construction workers about safety.

It is great to see Canadian companies, such as Vicom Multimedia, developing important and original solutions using Microsoft Visual Basic, a flexible development tool that sets the industry standard for developer productivity and innovation, said Michael Flynn, Developer Tools Marketing Manager at Microsoft Canada. With Visual Basic and other popular languages in the Microsoft Visual Studio Suite, companies can build scalable applications for the Windows environment and the Web that easily integrate with a variety of existing systems.
